What happened this week:
We kicked off the week with lots of Halloween fun – an assembly, a carving celebration, and a dance on Tuesday. Kids came back to school tired but happy on Wednesday, and some of our staff helped them work off the sugar with a class swim or skate. We’ve continued with grade 5 handball practices during lunch recesses, and a boys vs girls game today at lunch. Grade 4 students were invited to watch.
Today some of our classes were able to attend a presentation from Compassion Dogs, a program that matches service dogs with members of the military or police force in need of support. Greg brought his retired lab Ace and New lab Charlie and Stephan brought lab Sarge. Mr & Mrs Gulman, from the Sooke Legion, explained how donations to the Poppy Fund support the training program for these very specialized service dogs.
And a Big Thanks! to the very enthusiastic group of students from Divisions 6 and 8 who will be participating in the Sooke Canada 150 Pageant at EMCS this evening at 7pm. They will perform three songs in French to represent the historical significance of the Poirier family, along with other Quebecois families, in the early development of the community of Sooke. Bon Chance!!
What’s happening next week:
