What happened last week:
Thank you Journey Middle School for hosting a band performance for our Grade 4s and 5s last Tuesday, and hosting our Grade 5s again on Friday with a fire pit and hot dog roast!
Divisions 5 and 6 enjoyed a morning at Ella Beach also on Tuesday, collecting supplies for upcoming projects. Thursday our school celebrated the unveiling of our Coast Salish Moons art project – thank you to all the parents and staff who participated! And Friday we had some excitement with Twins day – ask your students which staff members were dressed to match!
What’s happening this week:
The Sooke Lions visited with Poirier’s Grade 2 students today to celebrate being a citizen of Canada, presenting each Grade 2 student with a certificate and a flag. Thank you Sooke Lions! Divisions 1 and 3 enjoyed a chance to stretch their legs and tour Chinatown.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some nice weather this week – our kindergarteners are planning a picnic at Broomhill park on Tuesday, and Divisions 10, 12, 13, and 14 will be heading to French Beach for the day. On Wednesday our Grade 4s and 5s will be heading out for three days and two nights at Camp Thunderbird. Thursday afternoon EMCS grads will be visiting the Elementary Schools in Sooke to give our students a high five, and encourage them to stay in school.
A note from our music teacher:
Our grade 4 and 5 students enjoyed a fantastic band and strings concert at Journey Middle School this past week. We were treated to the grade 6/7 band, the grade 7/8 band, and the jazz band, along with performances from students in the strings program.
Both bands recently competed in the Regional Music Festival, receiving “Superior” ratings for their performances. Bravo, Journey! The band director, Mrs Bjorklund, is still taking registrations for band next year. It’s not too late to sign up if you were inspired by this week’s concert. Contact the Poirier office for a registration form.
